Trusted Dentist – Houston, TX
Get to Know Dr. Matt Hiner
For Dr. Matt, the best part of being a dentist is having the ability to build trust and relationships with his patients over time while simultaneously improving their health! He looks forward to welcoming new patients and families who are in search of a dedicated, down-to-earth dental office.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
When Dr. Matt was younger, he spent a lot of time at the dentist and orthodontist’s office. He always had a really fun experience and thought that everyone there seemed so happy. In particular, his orthodontist was always really engaging and would even remember things about him from appointment to appointment! Even at a young age, he understood how the power of engagement and genuine interest could be the light in someone’s day. He kept learning about dentistry through high school and even wrote a research paper about it in high school when asked to talk about a specific career. He said in his senior yearbook biography that he wanted to become a dentist after finishing college – and he did!
Our Relationship with Houston's Sports Teams
Beyond providing exceptional dental care at their practice, Dr. Hiner serves as the team dentist for the Houston Texans, Rockets, and Dynamo. Taking care of the athletes, coaches, and staff of these organizations is a job Dr. Hiner feels very blessed to have. He also works closely with Rice University, the University of Houston, and Houston Baptist University, creating custom mouthguards for these teams as well as local high school athletes. Dr. Hiner is an active member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry, continually learning and sharing techniques to stay at the cutting edge of dental technology.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Matt met Dr. Reagan in dental school, and they were married before graduating! They have two beautiful daughters, Louisa and Delilah who lovingly take up the majority of their time outside the dental office. Additionally, they have a Basset Hound named Murphy and two cats (a brother and sister) named Milo and Minka.
As for hobbies, Dr. Matt loves hiking, keeping up with local sports, and playing basketball (if you see him with a black eye or a limp, it’s because he got a little too competitive on the court). He’s also a novice gardener (soon to be master) and a slightly above novice chess player. He’s always up for adding patients on Lichess (a chess phone app) if you aren’t afraid of his Queen’s Gambit!
